Imelda Arcilla Papin, known professionally as Imelda Papin, was born on January 26, 1956, in Presentacion, Camarines Sur, Philippines. She began her singing career locally before moving to Manila and competing in regional contests. Her breakthrough came with the release of her second studio album, Kutob (1978), under Wonderland Records, which featured the hit track "Bakit?" Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, Papin released multiple albums including I Love You, Imelda, Imelda Papin, and Mel, establishing herself as a prominent figure in Pinoy pop.
