Terry McBride grew up in the small ranching town of Lampasas, Texas. He received a guitar for his ninth birthday and began playing in bands as a teenager. His adolescent summers - and three years immediately following high school - would be spent on the road playing in his father Dale McBride’s band. In his early 20s, Terry moved to Austin where he became a sought after bass player touring with Texas artists Lee Roy Parnell, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Johnny Duncan, Rosie Flores and a two year stint with Delbert McClinton.
