A native of Maracaibo, Venezuela — and residing in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA — Lali Mejia is a band leader, percussionist, composer, producer and educator specialized in the Afro-Venezuelan folklore as well as Latin American styles of music. Since 2018 she leads a tropical Latin band called Bululú, focusing on original compositions and adaptations inspired by the music and flavors of her home country.
