Dick Hixon

This artist is one of very few brass players to be identified primarily as a bass trombonist. Dick Hixson also recorded on the normal size trombone as well as French horn and even took pictures that were good enough to be used on album covers, at least according to the standards of guitarist Herb Ellis. Hixson had musically talented parents: his father also played trombone while his mother was a pianist (subsequently it can be assumed at least half the family was in tune).
