In the late 1980’s, The Blarney Pilgrims set out, through their music, to re-awaken and re-assert a shared sense of Irish identity amongst their generation. Glasgow’s sprawling Celtic supporting communities eagerly enhanced the opportunity to express their Irish heritage. The band’s renowned residency at the now defunct McNees Showcase Bar on Glasgow’s southside set in train a process that saw an explosion of interest in Irish music.
