O’South began in 2017 as a rebirth of ideas from Tyler's, Carl's, and Brook's previous bands. Tyler , Carl, and Dan had previously been in a band called Mahal from Las Vegas that Carl had established while living there. Carl moved back to Utah and met Brooks through a mutual friend and they began writing new material. Tyler and Dan then joined shortly after. Within a few months time they had written enough songs and started the recording process with Brooks tracking drums with Andrew Goldring in SLC. The idea was to record and release independently.
