Dr. Kamikaze and the $35 Sound formed in 2000 as a live experimental performance art duo. Often functioning as disruptors in their local scene with a creative ethos similar to the 1920's Futurists, the $35 Sound had the power plug pulled on them on more than one occasion. As their live repertoire featured lengthy stretches of improvisation, the duo began recording albums much as they had their performances--live, direct to cassette tape.
