While composing this song, she thought about putting a little twist to Christian Andersen’s fairy tale Little Mermaid, a story about a girl who decides to give up something as important and precious as her voice to be with someone. In her version, the mermaid (siren) would never make a sacrifice like that. If you have to give up something as precious as your ability to speak it means this isn't love after all.
