Mr. Spike's big break came in 1986 when he received an unexpected opportunity. After a three-day rehearsal, he was asked to play bass guitar on Sinéad O'Connor's 1987 debut album, "The Lion And The Cobra." Mr. Spike, primarily a guitarist, initially hesitated when asked to fill in on bass for a few days. His initial response was, " F**k off!
