Mats was born in 1965 and grew up in Butorp, Deje in Sweden. He started playing piano but then switched to guitar where the discovery of playing chords was a milestone in Mats' musical life. He took up piano studies again at the age of 18 and studied music at 2 folk high schools before moving to Boston in the USA in 1991 to study at Berklee College of Music. with the major Professional Music.
