In May 1996, the band started in Tokyo with vocalist and guitarist Keiji Matsui, bassist Hideki Kinugasa and drummer Koshi Yokoyama, and two months later released a five-track mini-album "Infection" on God's Pop Records.The following year, 1997, they released a four-song EP, "Radiolaria". After recording and live performances in London, UK, the band made their UK debut in 1998 with the single "Dog on a roller coaster" and toured around London.
