The singer and actress christened Apollonia by Prince became one of a number of female artists in the '80s to benefit from her association with the Purple One. Born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica, California in 1959, her career began as a model and actress in the late '70s, including an appearance on the television show CHiPS. In 1984, she landed the female lead in Prince's Purple Rain (during which time he changed her name) and replaced Vanity in the female trio Vanity 6, performing with them in the movie under the name Apollonia 6.
