Dan Zhu is one of China's leading violinists. He numbers several Western musicians among his mentors and has also performed widely in the West as a concerto soloist and chamber musician, performing a variety of contemporary repertory as well as traditional works. Zhu was born in Beijing in 1982. His family was not musical, but his parents supported his musical ambitions. Zhu made his concert debut at age nine, performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, with the China Youth Symphony Orchestra.
