A forward-thinking, post-bop trumpeter, Wallace Roney first emerged in the late '80s as a gifted soloist with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Tony Williams. Blessed with a warm, often plaintive tone and lithe improvisational style, Roney was often regarded as the heir to the modal legacy of Miles Davis, though his playing also evinced the influence of trumpeters like Clifford Brown and Woody Shaw.
