Born in Nairobi as Jason Dunford, Samaki Mkuu’s love of music started early. However it was his love of sports that initially took center stage and drove him to pursue a swimming career that saw him rise to a final in the 100m butterfly at the 2008 Olympics. Upon retiring from sport a chance meeting with Mexican rapper Romantico led him to record his first track on their collaboration Mbaya, released in 2018.
