The music of Sequoia is all about conveying the beauty in harsh realities of adult life with both a serious dramatism and a childlike playfulness. Although these two might seem to contradict, the pianist finds a way to combine the two, take off and land in a spot somewhere in between modern classical and jazz piano of the first half of the 20th century.
