Folk-pop band the Ginger Envelope were formed by Patrick Carey and pedal steel player Matt Stoessel (who has worked with South San Gabriel, Summer Hymns, Dark Meat, and Don Chambers & GOAT) in Athens, GA, in 2003. During the next year, they expanded the group into a quintet, adding three former members of the Urbosleeks who had moved to Athens from Lafayette, LA: Jason Robira (percussion), Jason Trahan (guitar), and Steve Miller (bass).
