Mlango Kubwa, Mathare's native - Kanyi Wyban - grew up immersed in Nairobi’s hip-hop culture and surrounded by state violence. As a kid, he progressively nurtured a skill for writing stories, poems, and song lyrics, which naturally led to rapping. He has thus made a name for himself as an artist and activist, fiercely championing youth action towards reclaiming the humanity of Mathare by planting trees and making it green, at MGM (Mathare Green Movement).
