First gathered together in 1997, Alexander Lebedev (vocals, acoustic guitar), Sergei Korolyov (guitar, microKORG, Kaoss Pad), Andrei Prosvirnin (bass), and Alexandra Kucherova (drums) hardly could play an axe. In the beginning, they merely performed eclectic imitations of their favorite Russian and Western rock music. A very singular peculiarity about Sansara was their use of a bayan (played by Ruslan Manin), which sometimes sounded like an analog synthesizer.
