GodKingKen was born Kendrick Lamar Ward, to Timmie Johnson & LaTrice Ward. His parents split when he was a toddler. So he grew up with his grandparents on the poor west side of Chicago after dealing with the absence of his father and abuse from his mother. Since he didn’t have a childhood, he used music as an escape from reality. He says that “when I record, I paint my imagination on canvas. Everything I make is for my own entertainment and is meant to be enjoyed for whatever mood you’re in.” He looked up to music artists such as Michael Jackson, 2pac, 50 Cent, Lil’ Wayne, Drake, Nicki Mina...
