Balek is the solo project of bassist and songwriter Lena Thijs. Just like Marc Moulin's famous song, the name is a phonetic abbreviation of the French “je m'en bats les couilles,” a rebellious expression that translates as “I don't mind.” Yet Balek goes far beyond indifference. It is a musical space without a fixed form—a genreless dream world in which cinematic sounds blend seamlessly with dreamy but razor-sharp melodies.
