Niuver, a native of the Cuban village of Bolondron, grew up playing classical guitar and lute around the island. With dreams of going to America, she met an American lawyer who discovered her while playing in a small club in Havana. She asked for help to move to the USA, where her sister had escaped when Niuver was just four years old. But the political situation between the two countries would not allow it.
