Known for their ambitious scope and high-energy live performances, K-indie rock band Jannabi (an archaic Korean word for "monkey") was formed in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, in 2012. After a brief stint as trainees for different entertainment companies and participating in the fifth season of television talent show Superstar K5, lead singer Choi Jung-hoon and guitarist Kim Do-hyung decided to embark on a musical adventure of their own that began with the 2014 genre-hopping single "Rocket."
