A native of the Bronx, NY, J.R. Boss relocated to Montgomery, AL in his early teens, experiencing life in the streets that most fail to resolve out of coming out alive. After seeing Doe B and Eldorado Red having success with their rap careers, Jr. decided to take on his career seriously, coming out with his first full length album Public Enemy No. 1 with Karltin Bankz.
