Balwant Singh Namdhari born and brought at Sri Bhaini Sahib, a historical village in Ludhiana, started his music career at the age of 8, with the blessing of His Holiness Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji. He started learning music under the guidance of Bibi Narinder Kaur and subsequently with his maternal uncle S. Mohan Singh Ji. He also trained in Hindustani Classical and Gurbani Kirtan under Ustad Harbhajan Singh Ji disciple of Pandit Mahadev Prasad Ji Kathak from the Jaipur Gharana.
