Raised on a south-central Nebraska farm, Dave Buchholz (BYOO-holtz) started banging away on the piano in his early years. That led to piano lessons, studying the classics. But when his aunt (10 years his senior) sat him in front of the television on a Sunday night in February 1964, his interest in rock music truly ignited as he witnessed The Beatles' appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show." In the 1970s, he played keyboards and wrote music for the 7-piece Nebraska horn rock band STRAIGHT, which recorded two albums and enjoyed a modest Midwest hit in his tune "Save Your Breath."
