Devosion was raised in Gary Indiana with parents who met at church. Going to countless worship services in the AME Church gave him a foundation in God with an interest in musical lyrics. The prayers on DMX albums often encouraged him to try to use rap in church. In his mid 20's he made a commitment to God and took on the name of Devosion. This name means "Daily Evolving Vision Of Salvation In One Name" and is a constant reminder that Jesus is his ALL. He carried this name into his ministry that was not limited to only music.
