Working under her born name of Linda Griner or her better known alias, Lyn Roman, has proved one of the more enduring female soul singers of the 1960s. Washington, D.C.-born Linda Griner made her recording debut on Motown in 1963 under her own name, without attracting much notice. Slightly later in the decade, she re-emerged with more of a sophisticated, jazz-influenced soul sound as Lyn Roman, cutting sides for Dot and Columbia, also without success.
