Sleepfighter wasn’t so much formed as grew like a furious, rock-and-roll fever when four friends, Ian Bobby (guitar, vocals), Matt Wilson (drums), Sebastian Lye (guitar) and Wes Thomas (bass), began finding time to unwind in between throwing hatchets as competitive axe throwers in downtown Toronto. Musical veterans hailing from acts like The True Romantics, Heartwork, and Wes the Electrician, a weekly songwriting session quickly turned into a tight catalogue of tracks and a handful of gigs opening for bands such as The Bronx, Biblical, and Rules.
