Originally from Port Elizabeth now known as Gqeberha, Unathi Gotyana better known as Gaffi broke into the Xhosa rap scene in 2021 through a viral topless video of him rapping. Also known “Machasa”, name he acquired on his childhood as a mockery from friends due to his body size and resemblance to a famous taxi driver who was known as “Machasa” back. He embraced the name and turned into a brand upon growing up. Gaffi moved to Cape Town where the Xhosa rap scene was thriving prominently and built relationships with peers.
