SPIEVY is a women’s choir of emigrants from Belarus and Ukraine, performing traditional Belarusian songs as well as folk songs from the borderlands of Slavic regions (Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania). The choir’s repertoire consists of traditional Belarusian songs historically performed by women during pagan rituals and ceremonies. These songs use simple yet profound words to convey symbolic frameworks of human interaction with nature and others.
