"Palantír" is a music project by composer/audio engineer Christian Schimmöller from Germany. In Tolkien's fantasy world "Palantír" is translated as "what glances at the very distant" and is the name for an ancient crystal ball that can be used to look at distant lands and for telepathic communication with other persons far away. This inspired me when I looked for a name for my project back in 1990 - back when Palantiri weren't considered evil per se - since music for me can achieve similar effect.
