Put together by Nervous Records after a successful single featuring the participants, the Polyrhythm Addicts were a one-album group that united several talented New York City rappers for a collaborative project. It began when Mr. Complex put together his "Not Your Ordinary" single, which included producer DJ Spinna and MCs Shabaam Sahdeeq and Apani B Fly Emcee. They decided to release it as the Polyrhythm Addicts, and it became a big hit with the New York City underground rap scene.
