Born and raised in Castries, St. Lucia, Deighton carried his Caribbean roots to the American Midwest when he moved to Athens, Ohio, to attend Ohio University. It was during college that he joined his first band and discovered a deep passion for songwriting. This led him to form his own group, Irie, which later became known as Identity . With the support of his bandmates, Identity developed a distinctive sound that blended Caribbean roots with Midwest influences, helping to shape the regional reggae scene.
