After first hearing Chicago house in 1986 and then working alongside Jay Denham and Fanon Flowers while he attended Western Michigan University, Brett Dancer left the Midwest, trading nearby Chicago and Detroit for New York in late 1993. Upon arriving to New York, he built upon the production experience he had attained in Kalamazoo with Denham's Black Nation label, ambitiously starting his own record label, Trackmode.
