Masabumi "Poo" Kikuchi was a Japanese jazz pianist of legendary stature with a vast discography that runs the gamut from post-bop and classical music to fusion, new age, and dub. He toured and recorded with dozens of artists including Paul Motian, Gil Evans, Terumasa Hino, and Sadao Watanabe. During the early 1970s, Kikuchi released the fusion works Poo-Sun and Susto. He simultaneously pursued avant and experimental music (1971's Poesy: The Man Who Keeps Washing His Hands), and straight-ahead jazz (1973's Hollow Out with Elvin Jones, and the following year's East Wind).
