Nimsly, born Garba Suleiman in Kogi State, Nigeria, grew up in a conservative Muslim family that emphasized faith and responsibility. Limited in his opportunities for adventure, he turned to music as his escape and expression. Inspired by Congolese Makossa icons like Awilo Longomba and Kofi Olomide, he started writing songs by age 16. Later, discovering reggae legends Bob Marley and Lucky Dube changed his view of music; it became a path to true freedom, not just an escape.
