This musical tradition has its origins in Spain and Portugal in the 13th century and it was a way of poor students to earn money and food. Nowadays, students don't belong to a "Tuna" for the original purposes, but seeking to develop themselves, to meet new people from other universities and as an escape from the demanding academic life.
