Sarel was born in Jerusalem to an Afghan-origin father and a U.S.-origin mother. He is a Kanun master, composer, and arranger. His musical influences come from both Eastern tradition and Western culture. His first album, produced in collaboration with producer Ron Bakal, combines diverse inspirations - from the East and the West, from the old and the new, and from the conservative to the liberal view.
