New Metric: Soundcharts Artist Score (Beta)

We’re introducing the Soundcharts Artist Score (Beta)—a new metric designed to measure an artist’s influence and momentum. Quickly assess an artist’s industry standing with a single, powerful score.

How It Works:

The Soundcharts Artist Score is built from two key factors:

  • Fanbase Score – Measures an artist’s total following across social media and streaming platforms, with fair weighting to avoid bias.
  • Trending Score – Tracks growth over the last 7 days, including key metrics like Spotify Monthly Listeners.

These two scores combine into a final Soundcharts Artist Score (0-100), which determines an artist’s Career Stage:

  • Long-tail
  • Developing
  • Mainstream
  • Superstar

What's better than 1 TikTok Top 2000?

Feedback from our "TikTok 2,000 Links" chart has been great, so we've doubled down and are launching a TikTok top 2,000 Tracks starting today.

While the top 2,000 links kept each TikTok link separated, the top 2,000 tracks matches all links from the same song together to provide a chart by 'matched-song'.

This is a much more precise representation of usage of music on TikTok as each song can have multiple links.

Here is how it looks on the Market Intelligence page

January 10, 2020: Analyze the Artist's Instagram Performance and Audience

The Instagram analytics page presents valuable insights about an artist social engagement. The page is divided into two categories: Demographics, and Engagement. We are building out platform with the needs of the industry in mind. Here's why we added Instagram Analytics data:

  2. Instagram Analytics allows marketers and managers to analyze the impact of their campaigns on the fan base engagement, and target their new campaigns based on existing instagram audience demographics.
  3. A&Rs use Instagram analytics to check the engagement metrics and see if the artist is able to connect with their existing audience.

October 23, 2019: Mentions Enter Open Beta

New Features:

  • Keep track of the online media and discussions with Mentions Lab

The keen eyes might’ve noticed a new “Mentions” tab on some of the Soundcharts screenshots we shared recently. We’ve been testing this feature a bit in a closed beta but today we’re making Mentions available to all of our customers. It is the new way to monitor online publications, websites, and online discussions on Soundcharts, bringing you a complete overview of an artist’s digital footprint. Here’s how it works:

First, we scan the web for all instances of the artist’s name being used. Then, we compile every mention found into a single, real-time report, filled with additional data to put the mentions in perspective, including domain rank, country and type (news outlets, blogs, and online discussions).

To focus on what matters most, you can also filter the mentions by three categories: unverified, verified media (websites we’ve identified as online media), and music media (websites that we’ve identified as music outlets).

We’re still testing things out down at Soundcharts lab so Mentions can be a bit rough around the edges. Nonetheless, we believe that this can bring a lot of value to our customers— and we need your help to make it better. Let us know what you think about it, how you use it, and how we can improve it. We appreciate your feedback.

September 25, 2019: Streamlined Local Data Access

Improvements:

  • Filter the Artist's Top Cities by Country

Sometimes, it's vital to understand how the artist's audience is distributed across a single regional market. You can access the list of top cities by Spotify monthly listeners in a given country using the dropdown filter at the top right corner of the Demographics section. Or, if you want to save yourself a couple of seconds (those add up), simply click on a country on the audience map

So, we’ve added Spotify Audience Retention metrics to Soundcharts. Available under the audience tab on any artist page, It's calculated as a share of the artist's stable audience in their total listenership (i.e., Followers/Monthly Listeners).

July 8, 2019: Turning Airplay Tracking Data into Actionable Insights

Introducing Airplay Insights Page

Even in the digital age, terrestrial radio still plays a huge role in the artist's career. We've built our radio tracking tool to collect the airplay from all over the world — but that was just the first step.

Welcome Airplay Insights: a brand new way to access and review Soundcharts' airplay monitoring data.

We've designed it with the needs of music professionals in mind, based on the feedback of our customers and our own first-hand experience working with artists and developing careers.

Airplay Insights is a fully customizable overview of the Soundcharts' airplay data, designed to help you to analyze the artist's radio performance, identify growth opportunities and assess the radio promotion strategies.

New Features:

  • Airplay Heat-map

AM/FM radio is the only consumption channel in the music industry that is still tied to specific territories. The airplay heat-map is a complete summary of the artist's airplay, organizing the wealth of Soundcharts airplay data to highlight the artist's most prominent / fastest growing regions and help you identify local growth opportunities.

Lizzo Airplay Heat-Map Soundcharts

  • Airplay Over Time Chart

However, the airplay data is only useful when it's put in the appropriate context. The airplay evolution chart is there give you more detail on the artist's radio performance. Select a timeframe you want to focus on, filter by country (or even down to a specific radio) and see how the artist's airplay developed over time.

Lizzo Airplay Over Time Soundcharts

  • Last Broadcasts View

Whether it's to verify a track premier or monitor a radio partnership, sometimes you need to stay in the moment. Last Broadcasts is a real-time, global log of all the artist's spins we've detected — so that you always know what's happening on the air.

Lizzo Last Broadcasgts Soundcharts

  • Per Station Airplay Breakdown

Keeping track of the artist's radio network is a key to optimizing your promotion strategy. What radio stations contributed the most to the artist's airplay count? Which ones have dropped the artist's catalog? Which have the most promotional potential? The breakdown of the airplay by station gives you a snapshot of your promotion network. It also features estimated radio station reach data — so that you always know how much the spin is worth.

Lizzo Per Radio Station Airplay Breakdown Soundcharts

Improvements:

The new Airplay Insights page is just one half of our airplay section. The good old Soundcharts airplay report is still available on the Airplay Detail page under the airplay tab. We've made a couple of minor improvements to that page:

  • No need to filter by period to review the artist airplay

The figures for the airplay counts over the various periods (7 days, 28 days, and 1 Year) moved to the general table, saving our customers a couple of clicks and a couple of minutes

  • More detail available on the airplay detail down panel

Added the data on featured artists and associated recording label to the Airplay Drill Down panel (accessible by clicking on any line on the Detail page)

June 25, 2019: Introducing Playlist Filters 📻

Get a deeper view of your playlist strategy with playlist type filter!

The playlist reach is a useful metric to assess the artist's presence across the streaming platforms. However, what is driving the artist's playlist performance? Is it editorial plugs or digital word-of-mouth, courtesy of your fan-base?

To answer that question, we've added a new way to review an artist's playlist performance. Now, every playlist in our database is assigned to one of the following categories:

Official playlists: editorial playlists, curated by a corresponding streaming platform's team

Major-owned playlists: playlists, curated by major brands (e.g. TopsifyDigster and Filtr)

Third-party playlists: user-generated playlists, created by fans or independent influencers

Playlist Filter By Type

From now on, you can filter the playlists by type — to separate the results of your playlist strategy from the user-driven long tail, and vice versa. Check it out directly from the playlist tab!

June 11, 2019: More Ways to Assess the Release Impact & More Local Insights

New Features:

  • Spotify Monthly Listeners Chart

So, how many people are actually listening to the artist's music?

With our new Spotify monthly listeners chart, you can see how the artist's listenership developed on the platform to assess the impact of a new release or a playlist addition and more!

For example, below you can see a clear positive trend in Ed Sheeran's monthly listeners since the release of "I don't care", his first new song since 2017. Click here to check out the evolution of Spotify monthly listeners for the artists you follow!

  • Youtube Views Stats

47% of all digital streams in the world happen through YouTube, so YouTube views are a key metric to assess the performance of new music and its impact on the artist's career. Our YouTube views chart summarises streams of all videos featuring artist's music, even if they live on third-party channels.

This feature is currently available for 1,700 artists — but more data will be available soon!

To follow through with our Ed Sheeran example, see how the YouTube Views spiked on the May 10th, the day "I don't care" was released, amassing almost 27,5 million daily views.
