About King Kong
In 1989, original Squirrel Bait/Slint bassist Ethan Buckler moved his music in a wildly new direction. He recruited bassist Willie McClean and drummer Ray Rizzo (later incorporating the keyboards of Todd Hildreth, the drums of fellow Slint alum Dave Pajo, and vocals from Suki Anderson and Amy Greenwood) and, inspired by bands like the B-52’s and Beat Happening, set out to make lo-fi indie-funk records with abstract concepts and herky-jerky dance rhythms.
