About Alonso Umana
Alonso Umaña Chan, Costa Rican born - Mexico raised, started playing drums at age 10. At age 15 he started playing with local bands in the underground Thrash/Death Metal scene. At the same time he fell in love with jazz and started studying and playing local gigs. He won the Tonica Talent Scholarship and made it to the Tonica Ensemble program. With help of the Tuition Assistance Scholarship provided by the Latin Grammy Foundation, Alonso finished his Bachelor's Degree at the City College of New York in 2020.
