Sumitra was born in Dayton, Ohio to a musically talented family. Although born in dayton, Sumitra found her voice and love for the stage as a youngster once moving to Beaufort, SC. Sumitra began writing, singing and performing professionally in the 1990s as a member of the world-renown group, "Marlena Smalls and The Hallelujah Singers."
