About Fernande Decruck
Composer Fernande Decruck was a prolific creator of works for saxophone and other instruments. Her distinctive style drew on both classical forms and Impressionism. Decruck was born Fernande Breilh on Christmas Day of 1896 in Gaillac, in southern France, and she is sometimes known as Fernande Breilh-Decruck. She showed talent as both a keyboard player and a composer from an early age and was enrolled in classes at the Conservatoire de Paris, where she won prizes in harmony, fugue, counterpoint, and piano accompaniment.
